A couple of years ago I participated in a Smithsonian Institute/Cedar Key Arts Center sponsored exhibit title The Way We Worked. I appropriated the title and modified it to The Way We Work. That perfectly reflects the documentary photo projects  I am doing centered on fishing and aquaculture in the Cedar Keys of Florida.
The photos start with the end of net-fishing  which was shut down in 1995 as a result of the Florida Net-Ban, wiping  out small boat net fishing in the Gulf, which traditionally had been the backbone of the economy in this small island community.
Fortunately Doug Calvert and his wife Nena had the foresight  to explore the possibility of introducing clam farming to Cedar Key and the Florida Gulf coast. As a result they  were able  to establish the first successful clam hatchery on Florida's west coast out of which the present aquaculture industry grew.
I have tremendous respect and admiration for the men and women working on the water in the Cedar Keys, and  am pleased that I can showcase some of them on this site.
